Euthanasia and Assisted Dying

Medical Assistance in Dying (MAiD) is the term used by the Canadian government for legalized euthanasia or assisted suicide.  MAiD became legal in Canada in June 2016.  The Catholic Church remains strongly opposed to euthanasia and assisted suicide in any form.

MAiD is not to be confused with palliative care.  Palliative care is a means of accompanying someone who is extremely vulnerable and significantly (if not entirely) dependent on others for care.  It combines pain management with efforts to attend to a patient's psychological, emotional, social, and spiritual needs.  You're invited to visit our palliative care webpage.

Dying To Meet You
Suffering | Death | Meaning | Hope  with Amanda Achtman
"Now we do not so much have a culture of death as we have death without culture.
That's why we need a better cultural conversation – one that explores death as an occasion for discovering who and what we truly are. "
